Small Size Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knife

In a posting last year I included an image of one of my two small sized Fairbairn Sykes Fighting Knives. I want to keep this posting on its own, but note LH 600's comment on the 1st Pattern thread.

I do not believe that these small FS knives have ever been properly documented or recognised. They are about seven and an eighth inches long, blade length just under four inches and the crossguard some one and a half inches accross.

Does any forum member know about this pattern, how many were made, when and for what purpose?

They are perfect in all details as the full-sized pattern, could they be apprentice pieces, gifts to clients or even Agents Knives?

Knife2 Detail of Knurling (slightly different on the two examples) and the Pommel Nut. I will be keen to hear what Forum Members have to say about these two Knives. Regards, Clive.

                        Hello Seebee 1
Very nice FS collection of very rare knifes.
I have not the small one in my collection yet , but i have space for them

I also collect German daggers nearly all types. Spesially the SS & KM. I collect the US m3 and different types of knukle dusters and German kampfmessers all types. Hard to get fine knifes in these days and the price is heavy .

I have started some new treads on german dagger forum too.

                        send you some info PM.

                        Great pics

                        Regards LH 600

                          Clive,

What a lovely pair of knives and really fascinating
I'm sorry mate but I don't have any knowledge to pass on about this type.

Even the scabbards are right on the frog but look like late types on the sheath. I presume from the your question that you don't have any provenance with them?

                          Very interesting
                          Regards
                          Irv

I do not have any history or provenance Irv, I guess I was hoping that someone may have another example or know about them. I do not think that any of the well-known knife books makes mention of them. The only reference I ever found was for the small, white plasic grip I believe, WS knife, this certainly was a letter opener or similar. These two knives are very well made and without a doubt by Wilkinson. Hopefully someone will come up with an answer as to when they were made and for what purpose. Regards, Clive.

                              1 pattern knife

                              hello seebee .

i am new to this forum so bear with me ...

the knife,s that you have seem to be SOE knifes . i used to know a chap called mo chewen , he was a parachute instructor at ringway during ww2 and he trained all the SOE spies on a one to one basis for jumping ...

he showed me a knife that was given to him by a woman SOE who did not want it and it was the same as your two knifes . mo said that they were made small to be easy to conceal in there clothes .

hope this info helps you .

                              regards paul...
