I was issued the Mk5 when i joined the army in 1979. I also remember at that time you were issued a hood for your combat jacket this is what we used to cover the helmet with for camouflage

Actually it is not my webpage, but some of my friends, I only contributed into it (some information and several helmets).
I don't think that it will be translated to English, sorry.

The differences are fairly straight forward, the shell itself is the same, the chinstrap mounting lugs on the Mk.4 and Mk.5 were lower than on the Mk.3, closer to the rim of the helmet, from the outisde the heads of th rivets are closer to the lower rim. The Mk.3 used a Mk.2 helmet liner attached with a nut and bolt whilst the Mk.4 and Mk.5 used a 'lift the dot' fastener and post. The shell for the Mk.4 and Mk.5 are exactly the same bar paint finish, the difference is that the Mk.5 used an improved type of liner usually known as a 'sock' liner as there's a sort of stretchy inner head part that looks like the top of a sock. All 3 helmets used a different type of helmet chinstrap aswell, though later Mk.4's into Mk.5 used the same green elasic type. Hope this helps.
