Need some help identifing this item.

Hello everybody,

A few weeks ago I saw this item on ebay. I didn't know what it was so I didn't buy it.
Does anybody know what this piece of equipment was used for and by whome it was used? WW2 period pictures would be apreciated.

It looks like it has been created to work like a tankers pistol holster, From a modified shoulder strap with 2 utility straps, Never seen one like it so can't say if this was done during the war or if it has been knocked up later. It doesn't look official

I agree with Nick. It looks to me like someone created a rig so he could wear his pistol low on his leg - just above the knee, I'd guess - for ease of access when sitting. But it does look 'made up' to, rather than official.
