    Sten mk3 sling questions

I've noticed that some mk3's have the sling attachment below the barrel shroud and some dont. Can anyone explain the difference. Also, does anyone have pictures of how a sling would be used without the sling attachment piece present on a mk3?

    It's a little trickier than the mk2...

    Thanks!

Off the top of my head, it's either put through a hole sometimes seen in the front sight blade, which I think is incorrect, or there should be 2 larger holes on the front end of the barrel sleeve, about an inch back from the end. The metal ring goes through those.

Thanks for the tip. The sling's well placed now. But I'd still be curious about the difference in sling attachment if anyone knows.

Does it signify different mfg, or was it simply a style change?

      thanks!

Depends, what's a 'sling attachment piece' look like?

          For example,

          Here:http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=86581455

You can see on the bottom of the barrel shroud section the 'sling attachment' piece welded on.

          Thanks

The more I look, it seems this was the exception rather than the rule.

            Re Slings

            Hi guys,

The official story is that the sling was not considerd on the mk 3 sten.

The slotted opening in the pressed joint/upper rib was the officially sanctioned solution.

Lets face it , its a mk 3 sten, even if the wire loop was a pain in the neck when sighting , who cares ? you were never going to get No4T standards from one of these puppies

              Hi Tim,

thanks for the comments, but if what you are saying is true, why would an attachment part be created for the sling?
