    CDN patern battle dress info

    Hi
    Just for my personal info:

    Canada have...

    1937 pattern

    1940 pattern.

    1949 pattern.

    1964 Pattern

    1982 pattern

    This is correct ??

    Thanks
    Eric

There was no 1940 pattern that I am aware of. The only modification to the BD tunic during the war was the method of closing the collar... early was with 2 hooks and later was with a cloth tab and button. However, I would not consider this to be a different pattern. Also, there was a 1947 pattern which was the first departure from the 1937 pattern after the war and had the open collar and single piece back panel. This tunic was esentially the same pattern as the tunic that was later designated the 1949 pattern.

By 1982 the CF had long since transitioned to the Green combat uniform (introduced late 1960s I believe, will have to check for sure). However, the webbing system, still in use by some elements within the CF, is referred to as '82 pattern.

The CF transitioned to the CADPAT uniform between 2000-2003 (ish).

      Hope that's helpful.

Sorry, just noticed... the pattern designation was again altered in 1954 vice 64 as you have listed. So to summarize... there is/was pattern 1937, 1947, 1949 and 1954 (which was used into the 60's). The last three patterns were essentially the same but the designation changed.

I Always thought it was 57 pattern not 54 as 57 was the year the FN was introduced?? Are we talking uniforms or webbing?

There was a transitional field uniform in the early 60s always called it 'Bush Gear' was in use until combats made their appearance 1968~70

I don't know what to tell you but I have a tunic and the label states "Jacket Man's Battledress Khaki 1954" and it was made in 1963. There really are not many variations of Canadian made BD tunics but there seem to be a bunch of changes to what it was officially called.
