MI9 Book
Does anyone know anything about a new book on the history of WWII escape and evasion kit which is due for publication soon please? Someone told me at a show recently that he met someone who has been producing a book full of photos of hundreds of escape devices. I don't know what it is called, so if anyone knows where to get a copy please could you let me know? Thanks

Help save Shean Block at Camp 20 Wilton Park - HQ of MI9
For those of you who are familiar with the history of MI9 you will know that they moved out of the War Office in London to Wilton Park camp close to Beaconsfield for the duration of the war. Wilton Park housed both the 'escape and evasion tool' inventors, designers and small scale manufacturers, spearheaded by Christopher Clayton Hutton. The interrogation group also used cell blocks to house important Axis PoWs prior to interrogation. Post war Wilton Park became the Army Language school and remained in service throughout the Cold War and until quite recently.
However Wilton Park is now closed and facing demolition and amonxt the surviving buildings is Shean Block. This building was erected in 1942 and served as Headquarters to MI9 for a period during the war. It is virtually the sole wartime survivor of the buildings built at Wilton Park to support the important escape, evasion and interrogation work conducted there.
In an attempt to protect and preserve Shean Block a petition has been raised, requesting Buckinghamshire County Council and South Bucks District Council to work with the new developers to save this important wartime building and preserve its important history.
So please would those of you who care, follow the link below and please pledge your support for the petition and see if we can save this important site before it becomes yet another of our wartime heritage sites to disapper before we even knew it was at risk...

A fairly recent addition to the collection is this example of the M I-9 Escape watch. This is only the second example I have seen and varies slightly from the example illustrated in my post 17-19 in this thread. It is incomplete, missing the rear cover and dummy winder, however a rare survivor and will eventually be restored.Attached Files

Save Trent Park - The Campaign to Protect & Enhance our Nation's Heritage
Further to my post on the potential (and subsequent) destruction of the unique MI9 HQ at Beaconsfield, the 'knock it down and sell it, damn the history' lobby are on the move again...<O></O>The former WWII Combined Services Detailed Interrogation Centre (CSDIC), run by a top secret (and sister unit to MI9) known as MI9 is now also facing a bleak future. <O></O>Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Joseph Kendrick, a highly experienced and skilled British Secret Service operative, was appointed to set up and be the overall head of the unit at its formation early in the war. Soon Trent Park would have a very special purpose, employing for the very first time, new and highly sophisticated eavesdropping and passive manipulation techniques in intelligence gathering from prisoners of war – a previously underexploited facet of military intelligence...<O></O>Vital intelligence gained from the Trent Park interrogation centre included information on the Knickebein, X-Gerät and Y-Gerät radar systems; technologies that were used to assist accurate German 'beam' bombing raids on Britain. Valuable information on German U-boat tactics was also gained, further allowing allied detection and prosecution of the U-boat threat. <O></O><O></O>Some quite grim information was also discovered, as initial evidence of war crimes and atrocities, including the mass murder of Jews, was also discovered, some of it even implicating the Regular German Army in the atrocities. Other coups included definitive evidence of the development of the V-2 rocket at an army research centre in Peenemünde on the Baltic Coast, initiating heavy RAF bombing raid on the centre on 17th August 1943. <O></O><O></O>Today the beautiful Grade II listed mansion and heritage grounds at the heart of Trent Country Park are at risk - the current owners are facing financial problems and the future of the site is uncertain.<O></O>In this, the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII, support the Campaign to ensure public access across the beautiful grounds is secured, and promote the potential of the house as a community asset for the public to enjoy.<O></O>So what can you do to support Trent Park? <O></O>Sign the Petition at the link below and express your support for the #SaveTrentPark Campaign which seeks to<O></O>(1) secure permanent public access across the beautiful grounds around the Grade II listed mansion;<O></O>(2) encourage a long term public use for the listed mansion and grounds, that would also promote the building's history particularly the important role it played in WWII, for the benefit of the local and wider community;<O></O>(3) demand Enfield Council to do all it can to ensure the above aims are realised; and<O></O>(4) demand Enfield Council consider the management and strategy of Trent Country Park as a whole and take steps to enhance and improve Park in its entirety.<O></O>The #SaveTrentPark Campaign which is being co-ordinated by Cllr Jason Charalambous and David Burrowes MP, is supported by Theresa Villiers MP, Nick de Bois MP, historian David Collins MP, Dr Helen Fry, WWII veteran and secret listener Fritz Lustig, Alan Mitellas, Friends of Trent Country Park, Christ Church Cockfosters, Enfield Society, Trent Park Conservation Committee, Chalk Lane Resident’s Association, Hadley Wood Association, St Paul’s Hadley Wood, Southgate Hockey Centre, Trent Park Golf Club, Trent Park Running Club, Trent Park Equestrian Centre, Beales Hotels at West Lodge Park, Estate of Rex Whistler & many others.<O></O>Visit their website: www.SaveTrentPark.org.uk<O></O>Like them on facebook: www.facebook.com/SaveTrentPark<O></O>Follow them on twitter: www.twitter.com/SaveTrentPark<O></O>Trend them: #SaveTrentPark<O></O>Thank you for your support!<O></O>https://www.change.org/p/enfield-council-save-trent-park-the-campaign-to-protect-enhance-our-nation-s-heritage?tk=XKOmsIelpiuqDjnFxJMf_rZqSTqziHm013peND hIbQM&utm_source=supporter_signature_milestone_ema il&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=supporter_signatu res_5000<O></O>
