Researching RAF Personnel?

Hello Gents, I was wondering how I would go about researching an Individual that served in the RAF? I don't have much to go on, other than his cap, which has his last name in it.
I know for sure the Gent was a Group Captain early in the war, and his last name was "Malet" I'm sorry I don't have more to go on. Anyone who could help me get closer to the knowlege of this individual would be great

This probably won't be of much use to you Mike but there's a great little book available that covers the basics of researching WWII British or Commonwealth pilots. Looks like Amazon have a few in stock:
