victoria cross

I was told by a freind the other day that the 'victoria cross' was made out of the metal from a captured cannon.
is this true, if it is can anybody tell me anything more about it.

They were being made out of melted bronze cannon captured during the Crimean War, at least into WW2. Whether that is still true these days, I don't know.

my freind didn't just dream it up then there was some truth in it, i think i will have to do a bit of research in to that, seems interesting. I never heard it before.
