Canadian Casualty Helmet ? Normandy Swanson

The following photos show a steel helmet, which I bought this week off of ebay in France, helmet location and origin were in the area of Caen to Falaise.
The helmet has SWANSON painted on the underside and a bit further round another 3 letters/numbers ?, which I can't make out. The first one though looks like a "y" or a "4" then a space then "IE", the photos really only show how poor the detail is.
Any ideas anyone ?, I have looked on the Commonwealth War Graves site and there are only 3x Swanson listed for Normandy and all were from Canada and all are buried in the same cemetery !
The seller of of the helmet listed it as follows "je vends ce casque anglais qui possède encore sa peinture d'origine, le nom du soldat est peint sur le rebord du casque "Samson" avec matricule, il a été trouvé dans la poche de Falaise en NORMANDIE. Je garantie ce casque d'origine et de terrain !!!!!", the name though was not SAMSON !
Helmet also maker marked "GSW Mk1 19??".
    Regards
    Gary

Hi Gary, the good news is that your helmet is Canadian made

Without confirmation of the regimental number (matricule), you will be hard pressed to confirm this helmet belonged to a fatal casualty. Swanson isn't the most common surname, but it isn't exactly unique either.

Indeed even the name does not guarantee the helmet was being worn by the soldier in question when it was lost or discarded.

Still, an interesting battlefield relic of the Normandy Campaign.
