Diplomatic service or FO 10/01/1910. Served 1914-1918 earmed Milöitary cross andFrench Croix de Guerre.
25/11/1920 HM Embassy in Berlin, Promoted 2nd sectretary 01/01/1923.
Transfered to Constantinople 08/08/1923. Granted allowance for knowledge of
turkish 02/06/1924. Trans. to the FO 17/11/1925. Trans. to
Warsaw25/03/1929. as Charge d'Affairs 1929-31. Promoted 1st Secretary
02/12/1929. Trans. to addis Ababa 26/01/1932. where he was Charge d'Affaires
in 1933. Trans. to Washington 03/01/1934. Appointed acting Counsellor @ HM
Embassy in China, 05/12/1938.
Acted as Charge d'Affaires Shanghai 1940. Promoted Counsellor of Embassy
05/12/1940. Charge d'affaires 1941. Trans. to Rio de Janeiro 25/12/1941.
where acted as Charge d'Affaires 1941 & 1944. Made a CMG. 08/06/1944.
Trans. to FO. 02/09/1944. Promoted Ambassador Extraordinary &
Plenipotentiary at Bogota 08/12/1945. Appointed Envoy Extraordinary &
Minister Plenipotentiary at Damascus 03/12/1947.
Appointed Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary at Prague 22/06/1950
promoted Foreign Service officer Grade 3. 27/06/1950 Made a KCMG
05/06/1952. Retired 15/08/1953.

Must have been interesting, especiall being inChina at that time.. And ambassedor to Syria during the first Arab Israeli war....

But as a young officer he was a dead ringer for Mr Bean (or Blackadder)
