    7AD (6 RTR) KD -- Opinions

    Hello, all!
Once again I am straying a bit from my normal field of expertise, such as it is, to purchase some Allied "tanker" garb.
I recently picked up this 7AD KD from E-Bay (oh…the horror…the horror) for a very reasonable price. I was just curious whether some/all/none of it is good.
Let's start off with the jacket proper: Front...

                          Bob,
There is a reason that this tunic was priced so reasonably. The insignia is much more recent manufacture that World War II. The only thing to me that appears to be wartime vintage are the rank pips. I do NOT believe that the yellow material under those pips is 60 plus years old.
The desert rat formation signs are machine embroidered and look to have been made yesterday. The weave of the embroidery is more indicative of modern production methods that what one would ever expect to see on a wartime sign. The tank on the sleeve and the seniority bars appear to be hand made in Pakistan.
The jacket itself could very well be wartime, but anytime I see a British uniform with the label removed, I assume that the seller was trying to hide a post WWII date. These jackets used to be extremely common and I would assume that they could still be purchased for a reasonable price.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I figured that you wanted the truth.
                          Allan

Badged-up tunic in mine opinion. Insigna doesn`t match the wear of the tunic. What i can see from the picture the insigna seem to be oke. Although i got some doubts about the yellow backing of the shoulder pips.
Pips look if they are put there yesterdag.

                              A Cautionary Tale

                              Gentlemen,

                              Thanks for the responses.

The cold, hard facts do not bother me that much, since the price was well below $100 (including postage), and still less than I would pay for a single pair of good German infantry shoulder straps .

I can use it as a "representative" piece, since my first love is still for Panzer items, particularly those of the Panzeraufklärer. (I need a counterpart for me DAK items!)
That said, this is a good cautionary tale, especially for novices. I am by no means a novice when it comes to Panzer items, but I am here, and I committed the mistake that many do when first starting out: I let enthusiasm override common sense and logic. Ebay: A minefield as always. Actually, I became suspicious when I was only the second bidder for such a rare and desirable item. Advice: Get a mentor in the field, if possible.

                              Thanks!
                              Bob Edwards
