please help Identify type of hat

I was wondering if anyone could please tell me the proper type or name of a certain hat I want to know about.

It's either British/Australian or French foreign commando origin as seen in south east asia war movies. Or is this a type original to African safari use by europeans?

I just want to know the name of it so I can buy a new one. It's a full brim hat but can "snap" up on one side as seen in this video game picture.

(sorry i can't find a real picture, but you see it in Apocolypse Now when sheen first shows up at the French Family's Plantation and their are French soldiers wearing them) since I don't know they name of it, I can't find one on the net.

    thanks,

I think I know the hat you refer to and it's a French issue hat made of thick cotton material, much like the Australian giggle hat issued in Vietnam but with a larger brim and a press stud at one side so it can be turned up like the slouch hat. It also has a cord string chin strap. The Australian slouch and English bush hat are made of fir felt material and have a leather chin strap, so are a different hat altogether. Don't know what the French call this type of hat, but I'm sure someone on this site will.

Its interesting to note that the Soviet Union used a type of hat similar to the Bush Hat too. It had a more conical corwn that the Allied type but it had been used as far back as the 1940s and was used extensively during the Afghan War - so much so it became known as the "Afghanka" hat by Soviet troops.
