    Hi Rob,

A good place to start would be to check in the London Gazette. You will hopefully be able to find a citation for his MM.

Beyond that, WWII files for UK soldiers are not accessable for the most part, however, you might have some luck with regimental museums/archives. Some are more helpful than others.

Give me a shout if you need help!

If he recieved a Military Medal in 1940, it would not have been for Burma; almost certainly for France & Belgium, May- June 1940. The Burma campaign didn't begin until the very end of 1941, and few British troops took part until 1943. It was mainly Indian Army troops at that time.
The North African campaign began against the Italians in December , 1940, but it's unlikely the medal was awarded for this theatre.
If he perchance was later commissioned, he could be traced through the various Army Lists.

Hi Steve ,its at a local auction coming up next Saturday ,its to the Buffs as I was saying to Adam the chances of getting it are nearly nil as the London boys always turn up when something interesting appears , it would appear WW2 MM's are generally worth a lot more than WW1 MM's so I suspect the price would be double a WW1 group . I will try and get a photo .Rob

                Hi Rob,

The price it goes for depends largely on the citation. The regiment on said medal is a semi popular regiment but I wouldnt expect huge bids from the dealers as they probably dont have customers for the regiment and they also have to make a profit. However price bid depends on the citation. Even in WW2 there were pat on the back awards for good work, there were also awards for destroying two tiger tanks. The later citation being the one that should make the most money.

                Go here...........http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/search.asp

type in WO373 in the department series code, in the "word, phrase" box type the surname of the man your looking for or his regimental number. This will give you the reference code for look up at the TNA.

You could drop the regimental museum an email?

                Steve.

Medals look good on face value.........make sure you have inspected the naming.

Looks like a 1st Battalion Buffs Dunkirk group.

                            Steve.

They do look good, but inspect the naming carefully.

This may be his full entitlement and if so, he must have remained in the UK after being evacuated.

Are the WWI medal(s) behind related in any way?

PM me with the auction house, I just bid on and won some medals from a small auction house in Surrey...having a bit of trouble with them!
