    N.A.A.F.I. plate

    Hi guys,

Came across this today. 17.5 CM in width. Would this be used in a barracks or is it a souvenir type piece? Any idea of value?

This is way out of my area so any comments will be appreciated.

    Regards,
    Stu

Remember them fondly like the Sally Anne alway there when you needed them.
Cup of coffee and a bun . Don't think it is worth a bunch just some good memories

Would most likely be from a canteen, the plates were marked for identification rather than as a souvenir. Thats not to say a few didn't become souvenirs.

Hi Stu, I agree with the other guys. An item from the NAAFI canteen. Value would only be a few quid.

            Cheers, Ade.

A wee more nugget of info...the tudor crown indicates pre-1953 manufacture.

The NAAFI was very handy for when the jocks I served with needed to bomb up on their porn supply

Burslem was one of 6 towns that amalgamated to form the present city of Stoke-on-Trent in, I think, 1926 so it's probable that this plate pre-dates that year. The Latin motto means "We serve those who serve" to which was always added "We also serve those who stand and wait!" The NAAFI was conspicious by it's absence up the sharp end in Borneo but the Sally Bash was always there.
