I'm presenting some of the badges that i've managed to accumulate that aren't in the best of shape. The welsh guards has it's original slider that i broke off while trying to remove it from an old mounting board. The rifle brigade has a partial stubb of its slider in place while the Dorsetshire is missing its slider completely. The 16th lancers has its lugs folded over and the Queen Marys Own has its slider folded over and top of the crown bent. I have always left my badges in the exact condition that got them in. However should a person try to repair these as best they can or will the attempt scew them up even more.

Hi Jim, I think you have to ask if anything you have here is really worth fixing. I can only speak as a Canadian focused collector but it appears to me that nothing in the lot you have shown is really rare or even worth the expense of fixing.
For better badges I have a master craftsman who does amazing worth but I guard his name like I guard my safe number. If I were to give it out he/she would be overwhelmed with work and I would never be able to get MY badges fixed. I have a coffee tin full of damaged badges. I call it my 5$ can and even occasisonally sell something out of it. Mostly though I just give the badges away to kids to promote the hobby.

The 18 Hussars badge sis worth about £15 so should be fixed. If the slider is bent over then a pair of pliers and a small hammer will strighten it rather than chuck it away. It will never be as good as new but is savable. I would be tempted to have a go at starightening the 16 lancers lugs as it appears to be the smaller NCOs version. The remainder are too common to be bothered with.

Cannot see a problem with the 18th Hussars badge I`d be happy to have that in my collection with a bent slider. The Welsh Guards I suspect is repro and besides I know where genuine examples can be bought for only 6 pounds so its hardly worth the reapir cost even if it is genuine.
If you plan on having your badges repaired I would seek out an old school jeweler who does not charge the earth.
Steve.
