    Beginner needs Para book recommendation

    Hello all,

I'd like to add a couple nice British Para examples to my collection. One mannequin with Denison smock and helmet, and another with BD and beret. And naturally all the gear to go with them.

Can you please recommend a couple good books for me to start my education with?

Is "For King and Country" by Harlen Glenn any good?

    Thanks

Hi John, as you know I am in the book and a lot of items shown are from my collection. It is a good basic guide but it is not without it faults.

    Cheers, Ade.

As Ade says it's a great book for the Equipment side but pass on the insignia section.

      To name a few.

When Dragons Flew - Border Regt History, reference book of their service.
Allied Special Forces Insignia - Great Book for insignia.
D-Day Paratroopers - Super book, loads of info on units, Equipment, Uniforms, etc.
The Gunners at Arnhem - Super book on the Artillery side during the battle.
Arnhem - (Martin Middlebrook) outstanding book on the subject.

        Para book

Hello again Ade. Actually I didn't know you are in that book. I don't actually know anything about it, I just saw it on Ebay and recognized the author's name. I am assuming it is the same Harlen Glenn from here in Southern California who I know from the 101st airborne association. I'll definately have to get that one since you and your collection are in it.

Scott thanks for the list. I have the American Airborne version of D-Day Paratroopers. I guess I'll have to get the British one as well. Thanks for the others too.

I would recommend British Parachute Forces 1940-45 by Howard P. Davies. Part of the "Key Uniform Guides" series, it was printed way back in 1974 but is worth tracking down. Only 32 pages but loaded with some excellent photos. Original price was $1.95!
