Unidentified marking on canadian WW1 helmet

This helmet was given to me by a resident of Starbuck, near Winnipeg, Canada. The marking appears to be CMG. I know that CMGC is "Canadian Machine Gun Corps", but what could CMG be?

Wasn't this helmet and its insignia discussed in another thread already?

Yes, I posted it in a thread several years ago, but not with a good picture of the helmet, and without obtaining a definitive answere on what the marking meant. Here is a link to the old thread: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...&highlight=cmg

I would say its the Canadian Machine Gun Corps.
Found some official canadian sites and they all use CMG and not CMGC.

Thanks, that is interesting info. So I guess this was the helmet of a machine gunner.

with the remaining paint and bold white letters this helmet is similar to ones done up for members who participated in the corps victory parade in London
early 1919. Also this appears to be the early pattern rimless brodie which is quite collectable in its own right

Unfortunatly, it is only a shell, and most of thepaint is missing. Its a miracle that the letters are still visible.
The London parade theory is perfectly plausible.
