    Tommy helm help needed

    Hello guys,

I have a tommy helm dated 1940. I got it from my grandfather. The tommies left it in september 1944 in Valkenswaard. The helm has two decals. One decal was painted on the light green base colour the other was painted over the first. Is there anyone who knows what units they are from.

    thanks erwin

i think that one decal was painted over the light green. Then the helmet had another paintjob with dark green and a new decal. If you need better pics let me know.

      regards erwin

Looks to me that it had a regimental decal, during the soldier was in training. Just a decal over the green smooth paint.
Then when he was going on front duty, the helmet got painted with a sort of camo. And on that camo they painted a other decal. First decal unter the camo paint looks a tranfer-decal to me. The second one is a hand-painted one. I got a simulair helmet to. Under the camo also a transfer-decal. Your helmet is one like it should be, not the 1001 helmets you see with the smooth fabrik painting.
Its obvious that the chap was in a recc regiment. The division????? Its a big guess i think!

                  Thanks for the comment Jeroen.
I got this helmet from my grandfather. English soldiers were sleeping in his garden at the end of september 1944. I thought maybe someone reconised the little fragment from the decal. I have asked my father also but he was to young to remember.

                  regards erwin
