    help id this badge

i haven't had much luck identifying this particular badge..., early crown and a different type of lug... i believe the lugs are original to the badge... it's also fairly large for a collar badge... hoping someone can help.

Looks more like a collar dog or a broach?

The center part is a very poor rendition of the Royal Coat of Arms so that leads me to think it is a family crest of some sort and not military?

        How big is it?

I cannot tell from the pic what does the Motto spell out?

Waist belt badge, used by both the Royal Artillery and Royal Engineers. In white metal with out the UBQIUE scroll at the base it would be for volunteers. Circa 1833-1855, although still used by some in the 1900's.

thanks for the replies... badge is 2" wide by 1 3/4" high... the motto which wasn't to clear is "honi sott qui maly pense". Marc, do you have any idea how rare this badge is? Thanks again Jim
