never seen anything like it however the wearer would be pushing his luck as the way the horseshoe is positioned (ie. not upwards), the "luck" would nearly be tipping out of the horseshoe!

Rob, mine has two! So it must be twice as lucky?

Seriously though as far as I know these are for reinforcing the fixing point between the main badge and the UBIQUE and crown.

These reinforcing strips are unusual for an RA badge but should be there on any genuine Connaught rangers or WW1 Royal Irish badge which have a design weakness under their crown.

This method of reinforce was authorised for the RA Cap badge on the 25th May 1917.

The badges were manufactured with the reinforce, it was not a field repair. There should be two loops, one on each slide of the slider from the scroll to the gun. A later version incorporated the slider and reinforce in one piece.

this was a problem with the Canadian CFA BADGES also have seen many repaired crowns like this due to the weak point at the base of the crown

I also have one of these RA badges with reinforcing.

                      Cheers, Ade.
