f/s sheath

i picked up this sheath for a dollar at a garage sale last summer. It has a numeral 2 impressed into the top back part of the sheath and no other markings that i can see... is it an original f/s sheath and if so what model of knife does it belong to? ( and no, there wasn't a knife at the sale!)

Jim, it's a nice late WW2 example

It's typical for a 3rd pattern, but I've seen many second patterns with such a sheath.
