    An Honory Irish Knight

I just saw that Bono, lead singer of U-2, was made a Knight of the British Empire, which is of course honorary, since he is Irish. I suppose we'll see examples of the cased KBE insignia now listed on Ebay under "Rock and Roll Memorabilia" !

I wonder what has become of the OBE's given to each of the Beatles back in the 1960's? Paul McCartney must certainly still have his, since he seems to have saved everything (I recall seeing one of his music videos years ago in which a garment bag was opened and it contained his original "Sergeat Pepper" uniform; they even showed the tailor label). I seem to recall that John Lennon gave his back to protest the Vietnam War. So perhaps George Harrison's and Ringo's are still in a drawer someplace.

The Beatles all received the OBE I think in 1965 and all of them them back for some reason in 66.

The Paul has the KBE as well part of the reason why it took so long for him to get the KBE was the action back in 66. I think he had to apply to get the OBE back as part of the KBE deal.

I would like to see Keith Richards get since they even made Sean Connery a KB even though he is an active Scotish Nationist.

the beatles all received MBE'S (not obe's) in oct 65....lennon was the only one to return his in 69 for what he said was " britains involment in biafra and for cold turkey (his lastest single) going down in the charts" typical lennon....paul and george can be seen wearing theirs on the sgt pepper album cover...in a petition for the legalization of marijauna in 1967 printed in the Times (?) newspaper , which they signed, MBE is printed after each of their names.....Harrison in particular was never impressed with getting the MBE...saying that after all the beatles had done for britain, all they were given was a "flippin' medal".......on the day of receiving the medal in oct 65, it is claimed that they smoked dope in the palace toilets while waiting for the queen, they have since said that they mearly had a smoke (cigerette) in the toilet, while ringo has said that he was too stoned to remember
