Wow this thread has taken a bad turn let's get back to the issue at hand. Is the Canadian mint going to do this great British medal justice and produce it with the quality it deserves? Is this medal going to be as valuable to collectors as the original? Changing the inscription to Latin in my opinion is an injustice done only do appease a minority of trouble makers who would use the medals inscription for there own political gain. (minority vs English debate)
Another question comes to mind why not adopt the medal and let the monarch award it like it has been done in the past? This would be in keeping with the tradition of the medal and the dominion, and with Canadian traditions.
The timing of this award is also interesting to me, it would seem that you create a medal if you want someone to be awarded that medal. Is there anybody in mind for this distinction? Afganistan vets? I hope that awarding it will not be abused. I have also read that the first “NEW VC” will be awarded to the unknown solider which Canadian veteran's groups are protesting.

The medal is not new, it was introduced and approved in 1993...it is also not a British medal.

The initial word was that this medal will be manufactured by the same company as the UK VC (Hancocks) from the same metal. Whether this has now changed I do not know, but have seen no official indication of this.

I think it is unlikely that we'll see any Canadian VCs come up for sale, and certainly not anytime soon. Hard to say whether any will even be awarded to individuals in the forseeable future. So, with that, rather difficult to comment on the collectablility. Of course, medals aren't designed or awarded with collectors in mind in any case. These aren't contrived collectibles like sports cards or similar things.

I'm curious exactly who you see as minority of "trouble makers"? Surely this is only swinging the debate back down the road you opened your post complaining about?

Well, I think this thread has had the arse kicked out of it for long enough, and I don't want to see it degenerate in to a mud slinging match between the Canucks and the Brits. We've heard both sides of the argument and I think it's pretty much exhausted. So I'm going to lock this thread.
