    Slide rule

    Hi there.

I will start my first post here with a question.
I am able to buy this slide rule.
The seller told me that it is a slide rule used by the Royal Artillery.
Can anyone confirm this or was it used by someone else?
And what was it used for?

It looks complete to me and all the leather straps are still in really good condition.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Sipke

    Hi Sipke,

What you have isn't a slide rule, but was certainly used by the Royal Artillery.

It's a surveyors instrument called an Adilade, and is used for drawing scale maps by observation. A quick guide to how it was used can be seen HERE.

I have a few vintage surveying insruments myself, and hope to be making an accurate battery position plan with a Plane Board and Adilade at Beltring this year.

    All the best,
    Paul

      Hi Paul.

      Thanks.
This Adilade is offerd to me for 125 euro.
      About 85 GBP.
Is that a reasonable price for it?

      Regards,
      Sipke

85 GBP is a bit on the high side...... they usually sell for 25 to 60 GBP, depending on condition, so in the 40-90 Euros bracket.

        Hope that helps,
        Paul
