Is there a site or thread in this wonderful WAF of ours that describes British para gear from WW2? I've often thought of venturing into this area, and unless I got a complete outfit from a reputable source, I wouldn't know what the hell I'm looking at. I'd prefer to find this info online so I don't have to get another book or ten, but beggars can't be choosers, 'ey what?!

Gene, collecting British militaria is very different to collecting German militaria. There aren't many dealers, and the few dealers that there are quite specialist. I couldn't imagine you'd be able to pick up a complete outfit from any dealer, whether reputable or not.

Also, there aren't many books on the subject. But I'm sure this forum could recommend you a few to read. I'd play it safe, use the search facility on this forum to learn from the threads that are already here and ask lots of questions, especially before buying anything.

Remember too, BUYER BEWARE!! This stuff is heavily faked.

          Jack.

            Jack,

Points well taken, believe me. Maybe if you para guys can start a thread it would help those of us immensely. If I were to seek a complete ensemble it wouldn't be from a dealer but a collector instead, someone who's taken the time to put together a period-correct setup but maybe wants to move on to other interests. Kinda like what I'm doing! If someone wants to PM me for my email address, please do so. I'd love to see pics of various pieces and hints/help on knowing good from bad. Thanks again--

I agree with Jack, there are some books but none is a complete guide or faultless. Some websites are hosted by reenactors and these show much replicted items.
My website shows a modest amount of uniforms and gear, but most insignia are covered.

              Cheers, Luc

                Hi Gene

If ever you need help then Jack, Ade, Des, Luc, Jeroen, are the boys to correspond with. As already stated this stuff is heavily faked and on a scale of scarcity knocks TR items into a cocked hat. I must know of about 40 pairs of FJ trousers in collections but only about 6 of their allied counterparts. That should put it into perspective for you. It's not so much having the money as actually finding someone willing to part with these things.

Good luck Gene and should you need assistance I'me sure the boys here will be only too willing to help.

                Yours, Guy.
