    ARP Helmet

    Hi,

Came across this ARP helmet. Does anyone else own one? How does this one look, worth going for?

    Thanks for your time.

    James.

            probably

probably around the £25 mark ... as the helmet is a pretty much standard wardens helmet .. of basic rank ..

(Nice to see the pre 39 liner though !!)

Wondering what date they started manufacturing rimmed helmets, thought it was 1939 could be wrong. And that small screw holding the liner. What colour is the interior? Only thoughts. Adam

                Hi,

Thanks for the replies guys. The price was £35.00, I've got the odd bit of ARP stuff so this would make a nice addition.

Could you expand on your concerns Adam, I don't know much about helmets at all.

                Cheers

                James.

                  Hi James,

I am not a collector of British helmets, my main collecting area was German. However I have bought and sold a good many at militaria fairs over a good number of years and have noticed that the increase in price of these helmets has brought out a rash of 'repaints' Maybe someone else can answer my questions about the early liner in a later shell. To say that liners where frequently changed at the time is not good enough, it only suits the dealers. Get the answers to my previous questions before buying. A classic wardens '39 shell would have a factory spray light olive brown paint finish as these rimmed helmets were originally meant for the army. Due to the BEF being in France I believe the decision was taken to issue them to the civilian services who painted them black. The interior colour doesn't fit this scheme. The helmet nut matches the liner date but not the shell date, impossible to tell from pics about the black paint but if the interior paint is wrong? Perhaps someone who collects these seriously should comment and give us a history lesson at the same time! Adam
