I'm unaware of the differences between KAR & Nigeria Regiment, KAR tends to be my general term for African regiments I'm afraid.
This is the badge I was thinking of I think, seen in an old Crown Imperial years ago, this illustration comes from this web site-
http://www.chakoten.dk/om_kar_en.html#n3
4th Bn KAR
This site shows this same illustration as 4th KAR (Uganda).

Leigh It appears to have 2 traditional lugs which have been poked through the cloth and then bent back on themselves to hold the badge on ,I cant see any signs of a crown being there originally and I think its cast rather than hand sawn though I cant be sure as its aged up a bbit and darkened . Rob.God please take justin bieber and gave us dio back

Leigh
The KAR was the East African British colonial unit - battalions in Kenya, Uganda, Malawi. Idi Amin was their most "distinguished" alumnus - RSM of one battalion, I believe. The WAFF (West Africa Frontier Force) included, eventually, the Nigeria Regiment, the Gold Coast Regiment and others.
Anywho, I did some more looking - after my perhaps premature leap to "defend" the NR. Here's what I got, Rob.
4th King's Own African Rifles were in 21 Brigade, 11th East Africa Division, which also served in Burma. (Check the Burma Star Assoc. site for details)
And their slouch hat badge was the Arabic numeral "4", just as Leigh says, with a [U]separate[U] crown above it.
(See www.southafricanmilitaria.com/cat_select. for an example).
Here are links to a couple shots of KAR types in slouches.
https:/.../iss/archives/empire/1-01pic1.html
www.umds.ac.uk/.../archives/empire/4-07pic2.html
These were taken in 1948 but if you can find "We Were There" on the IWM site there's one shot of KAR in Burma.
So, it looks as if it may be 4th KAR after all ! Either way, a great piece and one any collector would be happy to own.
All the best.
Peter
