    Airborne items

    Hi all,

I am thinking of getting a British WW2 Airborne soldier together for a change.

I am not really into this field (yet) but am of course willing to learn.

Are there any websites you would recommend?

Also please give your thought on this Dennison smock with buttons which is being offered. Unusual?

    Thanks,

    Dirk J.

Hi Dirk, these smocks are all made by John Gordon Ltd and are authentic. They are unusual but not rare. Looks fine to me. As always it comes down to price.

        Cheers, Ade.

          Hi Dirk,

          Very nice smock!!

My father lost of it in a fire in 50's years.... ...and I "lost" one in Normandy during the commemorations of the 55 years of invasion. I was bought it and my wife fought with me and had that to return it for the salesman in Saint Mary Eglise... ...it was of a lieutenant (glider pilot)!!

          * Everything to conserve mine 17 years of married.

          Best regards,

          Ricardo.

            Hi Ade,

I was hoping on your answer!

Not sure on what he wants for it because the highest bidder may buy it... auction site. He states the tail was replaced at one stage, depending on the price, it would not be a disturbing thing to me.

I think I will make an offer and let you know about how it ends up.

            Anyway thanks again .

            Dirk J.

Hi Dirk, I wondered if the ape tail had been replaced? The pics were not great. Looks like the press studs to the front have been replaced too?

Denisons are not that rare, despite what E Bay sellers might say. I would hold out for a better example if I were you. As I said before, it all boils down to price.

                  Cheers, Ade.

                      Dirk,

You should have a look at this Dutch website

                      http://www.tommy-talk.com/

That Denison wouldn't be worth buying in my opinion as it has too many issues.

Interesting, 1st pattern with central seams, haven't seen that before apart from on smocks that have been put back together after a full length zip has been removed, and I don't know why there's be one down the back. The stitching around the central seam and zip does seem to be a little different to the rest of the smock, at least in the photographs. Can't say I'm a big fan of the label in it either. If I had ******163;1k in my pocket for a Denison, it wouldn't be this one.

I don't see many 'issues' on the 2nd pattern posted originally, tail has been replaced, presumably after the original has been cut off, and some of the poppers may have been replaced but if the price is right then. It's quite definately original, and as any original wartime Denison in reasonable condition seems to be in the mid ******163;000, then it's good enough for a manaquin or similar.
