    Parachute Quick Release box

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me which type this is, for which parachute? I believe it's a RAF issue. It's marked T43116, a X, an arrow, and I 701/3.

    Thansk in advance,

    Greetings Edgar

I thought that that type was round?

        Here's a picture.

        Is the bottom is flat?

Yes, but one part is slightly bended, because it has to be worn on the belly area. But this box isn't all round like the image you have shown me.

It could be a mark X but a different pattern, I'm not sure now.

            Someone will know.

I now see what is the problem, it's indeed a X-type, but the bottom is cutt off, that's why the model isn't known. Anyone an idea why this could have been done?

Done post-war I think, also done on the US T7A crash-box and most Aircrew type parachute harnesses. I assume it was to make it easier to grip when getting out of it.

                  Also

A slightly later pattern ... all four lock-buckles release from this box, whereas on the earlier type, one was retained when the box was used.

                  Regards

                  Gary J.

                    Also .. also ..

Did the British, as with a lot of the German Para equipment, copy the quick release box ?

                    Regards

                    Gary J.
