    Tommy cooker

How does a tommy cooker used by the British A/B soldier looks like?

    Cheers.

Hi Sonny, more than one design was used.

There was one which was a small flat tin filled with jelled fuel onto which a two peice clip together stand for the mess tin to sit on.

Another design can be seen here, reproduced by my friend Ian Durant:

I have seen many other types but I don't have pics to share. One comes in a tin, whereas another is a simple wire frame to hold a fuel tablet and the mess tin.

    Cheers, Ade.

"Tommy cooker" was the Wehrmacht anti-tank gunners's nickname for the Sherman tank. They said even a near miss would set it on fire!
