            Dfc

The only thing I can tell you is they are issued unnamed with the year of the award engraved on reverse. The crown on the case is different from a DFC I have. Is there any provanance with the medal? Its hard to tell by the picture but I would be careful. I would never purchase one unless you have Log book, pictures, service record etc. What's he asking ? The date 1944 does not look right.

              Hi Darrell,

I have to admit that it looks 'odd' for want of a better word. There is something niggling at my brain but for the life of me I can't figure it out. As an aside the gentleman involved, serial number 119818 RAFVR, had the award Gazetted on 8/12/1944:5635. I don't have a copy of his citation sadly.

              Cheers
              Gary

Just a little off topic but was the OBE named?

I have seen a few DFC and OBE named but I would think this was done after the award was given as I have seen many more in groups that are unnamed.

                    Not 100% sure though.

                      Dfc

I have only seen one OBE that was marked on reverse (With the date.) Darrell , That DFC should have sold higher than it did if it was genuine. The dealer sells copies I see. Remember anybody can engrave a name. I believe its a copy. Too many bids retracted or removed.

OBE's, DFC's, MC's, AFC's, MBE's were all issued unnamed - however you do see them named, privately by the recipient, from time to time. It is then up to you to decide if the award in question was, indeed, named by the recipient himself, or by someone else at a later date (for nefarious purposes or otherwise).

Laurence, your OBE looks fine to me (not saying it is - just saying I don't see any obvious problems with it). Darrell, don't like that DFC one bit (date too high up and overall quality of the piece).
