    British WW1 Victory Medal

Hello, may I have your opinions on this victory medal please? Is this a good one or just another bad casted copy? Any comments are appreciated.

Looks ok to me. The Obverse looks to have lost some of it's sharp details (probably due to polishing or wear).

These are so dirt cheap, I would wonder why any would be copied, but I guess to make a buck is to make a buck.

Thank you for the comment Mr. Darrell, I was worried because some of the collectors indicate there are some recent copies floating on the market with fake engraved names, but I think I had a good start after your positive view on this medal.

        Can't see the full name

Can you post the full name / number / regiment mark.

I can see 2331 SPR ... which is rank for Sapper, .. and 2331... a early regiment number ..

For interest: The British Armed Forces Medal Office no longer holds stocks of First World War medals. Anyone claiming any WW1 medals now will have a modern day made medal and it will more than likley be laser engraved not machine stamped.

I am with Darrell on who would ever cast one of these. There must be at least million of them still out there. The going price would hardly cover the cost of production.

Would love to see a copy of this medal it would be worth more than an orginal.

Yes Darrell is quite right IMO. Given the high numbers of genuine medals (5 million plus), it's in crooks' interest to erase the name of an original medal and rename to a collectible unit, high-ranking officer, VC awardee etc. They certainly wouldn't rename to a lowly sapper, unless he had done something special.

The medal is Genuine ww1 issue, with polishing to the obverse, the regimental number is early four digit, most possible pre ww1 service.

                    Interesting Details ..........

I did a search in the National Archives medal roll index but I could not come up with any info.

                      Cheers, Ade.

Victory Medals are indeed being copied - as are the WWII stars. Don't ask me why. This one, however, is fine - a nice uncommon example to an Indian recipient in the days when S&M had a different meaning than it does today.
