British Airborne Artillery Officers Service dress jacket.

Hi Guys, here is an original Airborne Artillery officers Service dress jacket from my collection.

I suspect that this tunic was made in India or maybe the Middle East? Note the very light colour and the watered silk lining. The tunic is unusual in that it has never had any bronze Artillery Officers "Ubique" flaming grenades collar dogs fitted. The tunic has been well used though. "Pips" for the rank of Captain are in bronze. Sadly, there is no makers lable or name to the tunic. There is a wound stripe to the right cuff. Buttons are the standard RA pattern.

The glider troopers badge is a replacement, as some kind person removed the original .

All other insignia is original to the jacket.

    Cheers, Ade.

Hi Guys, I have brought this old thread back to the top to see if anyone has any ideas as to why this tunic has never had collar dogs fitted?

        Cheers, Ade.

          Hi Ade,

I have not got a clue. It seems strange to me. Perhaps the officer chose not to wear them? Unlikely, be possible. Was it against the regulations not to wear them?

When you say the glider badge is a replacement - was there evidence of where one had been originally?

          Thanks from Jack.

Hi Jack, yes, the glider badge was clearly once there, a darker patch to the cloth plus the threads were still there. I suspect it was removed only hours/minutes before I got the tunic.

              Cheers, Ade.

How can someone have the nerve to do such a thing???

They have destroyed a piece of history!!!

                What a stupid person!!!

However, sad things like this do happen!!!

                The saga continues...

                Thanks from Jack.

Are the buttons sewn on or held by split rings / pins. Could the tunic have belonged to an officer in a unit that did'nt wear collardogs & just had a set of buttons sewn / pinned on?

Hi Leigh, the buttons are stitched on and certainly original to the jacket. The lack of collar dogs has got me stumpted.

                    Cheers, Ade.

Bronze or black rank stars were not the norm for RA Officers so there is another mystery for you.
