            Martin,
This is a DSO (Dick Shot Off!) Distinguished Service Order - instituted in 1886 by Queen Victoria. I'd say you got a bargain if this was from a flea market It has a Kings Crown in the middle so will be from 1902-1952.

I'm afraid that all I can tell you is that this was/is next in line to the VC as far as decorations go.

'Officers awarded the DSO...have often just 'missed' the award of the VC'.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this DSO just a George V example, making it one that would have been issued between 1910 and 1936?

                    Thanks!

It may be - I'm no expert on these but I also (apart from TR) collect RAMC cap badges, and the kings crown on the Edward V11, George V, George V1 badges of 1902-52 are of identical design. If there is a difference then I'm all ears

It's King George V - George VI had a slightly different design of lettering & of course "VI" rather than the "V" that this one has.
I wonder if this & the Rumanian medal that came withit were awarded to the same man, along with French medals & decorations?

The Dix Noonan Webb site has a database where you can research auction prices realized.

                            http://www.dnw.co.uk/dnw/medals/MedalsHome.htm

It looks like single DSOs from this time period brought 290 - 650 GBP in auctions between 1994 and 2001.
