    My New Beret

    Hi all,

Just wanted to share a new addition. I've known about this one for awhile as it's been in the works for quite some time. A friend found this little group at a garage sale and picked it up knowing that I would be interested. The sad part is that he's also a collector and knew he'd had something I wanted. He drove a hard bargain but I still think I did pretty well as it was traded for very little.

The beret itself appears to have been in this configuration for many years. The eagle is original to it but has been "modified". It appears as if it originaly had two prongs folded over onto it and was later field converted to it's present state of having a screw post and nut. Either way this set was indirectly acquired from the vet's estate and has been together forever.

Please feel free to comment and thanks for looking.

    Cheers,
    Greg

The backing plate to give the eagle some added stiffness. Notice the two prong shaped holes that allowed for the original prongs to pass through.

Last one depicting the eagle next to it's "ghost".

Thanks again for looking. Looking forward to any comments.

                  Hi Jeroen,

Thanks for the kind words. I really like this one and it has fast become one of my favorites. One of these days I'll have to get around to posting my Polish 2nd Corps collection.

                  Cheers,
                  Greg

                    Greg - she's a beauty!

It is indeed nice to see an authentic unaltered wartime beret.
