What kind of parachute is this?

Gentlemen, is this some kind of container parachute?

It certainly looks like it to me .

I think that I'm correct in saying that the colour of the chute itself indicates the contents of the container... anyone able to elaborate on that?.

Ok .. found my reference to the parachute colours ..

Red = Ammunition
Green = Weapons
Blue = Medical supplies
Yellow = Rations

.. It's a shame the label is washed out ... I can make out the parachute serial number as 2037.

.. No doubt, as soon as Ade sees this he should be able to give a little more info, .. as I know he was chasing some details concerning drop containers a while back.

Hi Gary, thanks for looking that up! So we got ourselves a weapon container chute. I hope Ade can tell by the serial number if it's a WW2 chute.

Some additional info, this chute isn't mine but it's offered to me for $300. I do not know if that's a good price but it would certainly look good with my 'resistance' objects.

Ok .. firstly then, "we" should try to identify if the chute is WW2 !

$300 USD ... well, the chutes are normally priced by dealers anywhere between £150 GBP and £250 GBP.
.. There are a few for sale at "Westlands Militaria" in Holland, and they are around 250 Euro's.

Hi Gary, I don't know Michel Clements. I really have to update my knowledge on Dutch militaria dealers.. But I looked for him on the website and found a website, too bad it doesn't work.

I have to agree on Westland, most of his items are very expensive..

I'm lead to believe that black parachutes were used to identify a mail (letters etc) consignment !!! (I'm not sure if this is correct, but so far this has been the only explanation I've heard.)

... Do you know (Clements trading) from Elst ???? .. he sometimes has the container parachutes in stock ..

(Westland tends to be a little expensive from what I have seen of his prices ..)
