    Clive of India's Tortoise

    I just read that the tortoise that General Robert Clive brought home from India sometime in the 1780s had passed away. It was around 250 years old. General Clive was a rising star in the mid 18th century in the military arm of the East India Company. It is amazing to me that here was a living creature that was around when the Empire was at its peak.

    Yes, "Good Ole Blighty" had many colonies back in those days (Pre 1776 ).

      I seem to remember another tortoise that expired a couple of years back. He/her/it was on a RN ship at the siege of Sebastopol. Clive's takes the biscuit though.
