Are These Commonwealth Bullion Insignia?

Hi All -

Can anyone tell me if these bullion opposing horns are Commonwealth? Any ideas as to what they represent?

They came together as a pair and have been removed from a uniform. They measure approx. 2-1/2" (6.2cm) wide by 1" (2.4cm) tall.

Hi Gary,
Im not sure if this is relevant to your insignia. However New zealand volunteers used the same insignia in white metal from 1889 to about 1896, from 1896 it changed with the addition of a bow above the horns. They dont appear to be a matched set looking at the backing material and the front bullion is also different.

They 'might' be RCMP. They do look very Commonwealth in style - and I have seen these before but in a different colour & weave, but can't remember where - or what on.

Brent - The U.S. Infantry and some State Militia units had also used this insignia during the 19th century, but with a wrapped tassle at the bottom of the bugle and not worn in pairs. The red backing is really throwing me, but I think Tony might be on to something with RCMP? I have some RCMP collar emblems around here, but can't remember if the two sets came in the same lot. Maybe?

I had noticed the slight differences in bullion design and backing materials used, but because of the sewn on stitching pattern and color of thread that was removed, figured they had come from the same blouse?

Hi Gary, I spoke to a friend of mine with better knowledge about insignia. He thinks that they were worn by Commonwealth countries (known as Dominions back then) up untill 1913 on the British style red jacket as collar insignia, the gold embroidery was usually worn by British personnel who were on loan to Commonwealth countries, as Colonials always wore silver bullion. The bugle was a symbol of the Volunteers. This would fit the RCMP as they were part of the Commonwealth.
I hope this doesnt add to the confussion.
