WWII RAF Visor - Favorite Piece

Howdy!

I'm new to the British collecting field. I have bought several uniforms and about a dozen British visor caps, but my main interest is WWII American uniforms. However, I purchased this visor about half a year ago and it is my favorite piece in my U.S. dominated collection. The cap has been "crusherized" and has a heavy scent of pipe tobacco. I thought I'd share it with you fellows. I know its not uncommon, but I get a real kick just out of holding it. Enjoy!

Howdy Chris,

This is the only Australian Uniform I've owned. Great bullion RAAF wings and looks to be an Air Commodore's uniform (?).

Hey Beau,
That is a nice RAF cap you have there -- I believe it is an early WW2 or even late 1930's issue.
I have a couple of interesting 'crushers' coming from the Royal Navy. The first is, like your RAF, a Captain's RN service cap that has been slowly worked into a crushable peak.

Now here is an unusual one: a Royal Navy private purchase cap modelled off of a Bancroft Flighter. This sucker rolls up and "crushes" just like a Flighter or a Wehrmacht Alterart.

Those are some great caps! The Bancroft Flighter model my favorite type of cap for the entire war. I believe my RAF cap has a name in it, how easy is it to research WWII RAF pilots and in what ways can I do so? Thanks again for showing the cool caps!

Beau, I don't know how to research RAF pilots -- though I am sure somebody out there knows. There is an RAF/RFC list for WW1, and there must be something for WW2 I am guessing.

Here is a photo of my RAF cap. It is similar to yours (hasn't been 'crushed') and has been nicely worn. I was told by a pretty accomplished RAF collector that this cap is from the late 1930's.
