I had posted this grouping of badges once before on another web site and thought that I would re-post this here just to get a reaction over the Parachute Regiment shoulder title. These badges were worn by a Pte. Reginald P. Corley of "C" Company, 156 Battalion at Arnhem and throughout his internment at Stalag XIB. These badges were obtained directly from Mr. Corley in the early 1990's. In fact he actually apologized for the dirty and worn appearance of the badges which I found rather humourous. Mr. Corley also rarely spoke of his Arnhem experiences and it was only after his death that I was able to find out that he was one of the few that managed to break out of "Hackett's Hollow" and make it into the Osterbeek perimeter. He also managed to elude capture for about a week after the collapse.
Getting back to the Parachute Regiment shoulder flash. An Airborne collector on that other site did not like the looks of the shoulder flash and stated that it very much resembles a known fake. I agree that this shoulder flash does look very much like a fake, especially with the lack of spacing between the Parachute and Regiment. But, if you look carefully you will see that the shoulder flash was removed from a uniform and is quite worn. I also went and blacklighted the flash just for the heck of it as well as giving the lettering thread and backing thread a burn test which checked out ok. This badge doesn't glow and none of the material is synthetic. The vet also was not an association member and never attended meetings or reunions so these were his badges and not picked up from someone else.
Anyhow, just thought I would post these pics as a matter of interest.
