Clear Out , Help needed !

I first started collecting some 25 years ago,and for those who know me thats nearly 5 years shorter than my age
Anyway those first few steps I took with British medals from ww1 and ww2 ,easy to find and back then very cheap. Needless to say the lure of WW2 German took over years ago and these have sat in a box [albeit it occasionally looked at ] , I have never really thought about selling them but I would like to find out what these go for now and If there are any particular regiments of interest, also who knows maybe these are the long lost medals of a forum members relatives.

    First set are to a J G White 297673 STO..1.R.N
these are the 3 ribbonless medals.

Then I have a single WW1 Great war medal to 67943 GNR T.R.Overy.R.A
Any info on him would be great. what are these singular medals worth now? I think I paid £2.

Finally I have a France and Germany Star and a Italy star, likewise would like to know their current values.
          Thanks guys !

Run of the mill unmarked WWII campaign stars are bringing between 7 and 15 pounds these days. Aircrew Europe is the exception, those will bring 100 to 150 pounds. The WWI Stars are bringing 15 pounds by themselves but as a group they go up pretty dramatically based on the unit. If it's from the "Old Contemtibles" the value will double and sometimes triple over a standard WWI medal grouping. The two triple groupings you showed will bring around 50 pounds on a good day.

Gary, thanks for the information. I suppose for the WW2 Stars even then I paid about 6 or 7 pounds each ,so not a very good investment if only I had gotten a couple of EK 2 instead !.Well I did but a couple of years later

                Hi Jon,

Yes the WWII stars are not very sought after yet. I have about 20 Africa Stars I bought about 7 years ago for a good deal then but they are still about the same price today! So I just hold on to them and eventually they will be worth something!

Cavinder died in 1920. He's buried in Scarborough. His number indicates a pre-war regular.

thanks for that, thats a good site !
Makes sense as all these medals were purchased in Scarborough in the very early 80's /very late 70's.
Also a little weird thing, he died on the 24-12-1920 Exactly 85 years to the day that I dug his medals out, photographed them and posted this thread

I know exactly how you feel Jon.........except the situation is reversed..........now I`m lumbered up with a load of EK 2's I bought years ago and I dont even collect them. Maybe one day they might be worth something.

                        John,
I know you are into German medals but the thrill of researching WWI British medals cannot be beaten. German medals are not named and therefore cannot be identified to the owner as such.
British on the other hand can be. Not only that but the original medal certifcate can be downloaded and if you are lucky , the soldiers records can be sought at the PRO in London. I would say hang onto them and research them. The feeling of finding a soldiers records to the medals you have is a great feeling and introduces the human elemant to collecting too.

Then of course there is the regimental history....

                        DON'T SELL THEM!!

Sadly most WW2 Germans decorations are not named........but theirs nothing we can do about that. Horses for courses.

I believe there is actually more scope when collecting German awards so many more variations in the medal itself.........take the EK 2........each one of my medals above has number stamped on the ring for a manufacturer.........this offers potential to the collector to try and build a collection of every manufacturer. But if this where a British War Medal...........if you've got one you've got them all. You couldnt possibly collection all 8 million ever issued!

With British medals you carry on collecting forever even if you only collected one unit.........I myself collect to the Lincolnshires and I know I`ll never own every medal to the regiment.

                          Steve.
