    Irish Vickers Helmet Badge

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me here. I am a collector of WW1 American Helmets and Uniforms but came across a very nice 1927 Irish Vickers Helmet. I need the badge that belongs to that helmet.
This is a picture of that badge on ebay item # 6587983284
I do not know who this seller is but maybe some of you might? Yesterday the starting price was 105.00, I have shown some interest to him and all the sudden the starting price is 145.00. These are supposed to be very rare but he has two, I find that kinda strange. If anyone has any info on him can you help me out. If not can you please direct me to someone else who I can trust that might have one for purchase? I have been looking for one for a few years and have had no luck.
Thank you very much for any help you may be able to give!

Hi Wade, please see this thread:

The seller is the same one as in the two auctions you mention.

    Cheers, Ade.

You have to be very careful with these badges. They have been heavily 'reproduced' by adapting genuine visor hat badges by welding a 2 prong attachment device to the rear.

In addition, to counter some of the distorted biased crap on the history of the Irish Republic's involvement in WWII, that appears in the other thread, I though I would add this link http://www.reform.org/TheReformMovem...ticles/war.htm

There are a lot of low quality fakes too that are cast copies.

Now, I think this one is good. I know the seller and she had a couple. The story I heard (before these showed up) was that a small cache of the original badges was found about nine or 10 months ago and these traded hands a couple of times. These could be from that cache. These are bigger than the cap badges. I did buy one and I will post photos when I receive it.

These have the same dimensions as the only real one I've seen...unless of course that real one was a cap badge. But that example is actually affixed to the helmet and has been in that collection for 20 years.

Sorry I don't know if thats a good one or not. However I do know they hardly every show up in Ireland at local shows so they must be pretty scarce.

p.s You posted this thread in the wrong forum. Should be International not British & Commonwealth

As soon as I get mine I'll post better photos.

And Des...the helmets were made in England!

Hi Peter, Yep I realise that (I once owned about 40 of the helmets!) but as far as I know the badges weren't

Despite the size of the prongs I think this could be good. I know of two "real" ones in collections and one owner says his prongs were filed down. The holders for the prongs weren't put on with the utmost care it seems.

Here is a comparison of the helmet badge vs. the cap badge I have. Ignore the color...the lighting was terrible.
