Gentlemen,

I have just been given some photos of my late father in law. I know from a conversation I had with him about 20 years ago that he had been shot and wounded by the Japanese in Burma I think and that he had also been in India. With the photos came a small address book and I have found the following. Would anyone be able to help me with units etc.

He brought this back with him but my wifes mother did not like it in the house so took it to the local tip.

Hi Paul, I suspect the two men were possibly brothers? Here is a translation Note sure of the "MA" in the second man's unit?

cheers Ade, you're right they are brothers, my wifes father and uncle. anymore info of any sort would be welcome.

Hi Paul, 2nd Recce Regt was part of the British 2nd Inf Div. They wore a formation sign of a black rectangular background with a pair of white crossed keys. The truck in the photo is Recce Corps as it has the "41" serial code on the front bumper.

Your wife's family (nearest living next of kin) could apply for the two men's service records from the MOD. See here:

Trooper Woods service number is within the block allocated to the Royal Fusiliers, so he presumably transferred across to Recce Corps from the infantry.
