    Who Knows Bullets?

Can anyone ID this type of bullet?

    Thanks

It looks like a coiled brass cased .45 cal. Martini-Henry round. Circa 1870-80's as used during the colonial conflicts. Unfortunately they had many problems with the coiled brass sticking in the hot dirty fouled rifles and when trying to reload the base would pull off leaving the rifle useless except as a spear. They later went to a normal extruded case as we know it today.

        Hi Paul,

The round is a a mark 3 'boxer' cartridge for the breech-loading Martini-Henry military rifle, which came into service in 1871.
