Commando Beret?

I grabbed this beret this morning for about 20$ out of a flea market. Since I live in Los Angeles, I figured it could be real or a movie prop.

To me the bullion looks like other bullion from WWII, but what do I know? The beret is red wool, with leather head band and blue lining. None of the tags have survived and I didn't find any other marks inside.

What can the people who are much smarter tell me? Is it from WW2, post war, or a movie, or a plan out and out fake?

I would really appreciate any assistance.

Hi Patrick, I would go with this being some kind of Veterans item??? Maybe it is not even British, but worn by another country's Vets? I am thinking of how the "red beret" has been used by lots of others since WW2.

No "red" coloured beret was worn in WW2 by British troops. (The Airborne "Red Beret" is a kind of a mis-nomer as it is maroon )

British Commandos, both Army and Royal Marines, have always worn a Green beret from WW2 onwards.

The only "red" beret I know of used by the British Army is that used by the Military Police in the modern era.

One thing that came to mind was a movie prop. Lots of this stuff come out on a periodic basis. Didn't they were something like this in that movie the Devil's Brigade" about the FSSF?

I have been reading the threads about the different commando titles--dose this look like something that was worn by the British/Canadians, or is it also a fantasy?

Finally, I guess the beret could be a faded maroon, but my gut says its red.

Hi Patrick, the film indeed did cross my mind too I don't think the FSSF ever wore a beret in reality.

The title is a bit of a mystery. It does look quite well made and looks like a shoulder title.

I hope others will add more input.

The beret looks to be from the Modern German Army, check inside for another three holes near the one below the title by the headband. The title is a current issue Royal Navy item.

As Mark says! Modern German Army and nothing else. you can see the 4 holes under the RN Title to attach the Badge.
Do you need 2000 more of the Beret's?

Hello Gents,

The hole you guys refer to near the headband is a moth nip. The beret has only the 2 grommets on the side opposite the title. No other holes (not introduced by moths, that is).

Are you still sure it is German army? BTW--I don't need 2000 more, thank you very much!

Just did that and you guys are correct. The small hole by the headband looked like a moth nip, but since the other holes were right where you said they would be, it is clear that it wasn't.
