    WW1 RAF photo???

    Hello

Sorry for the poor picture but the photo is period framed. Can you please help me identify the rough time period this photo was taken? On the chest he has possibly red? ribbon bar with 3 vertical white stripes. the only info to the reverse is

    JACK ????? ?????
    22
    DIED
    SEPT 5 1929
    AGE 32

I am not wanting to sell it but i would be interested to know a rough value for this photo.
    Sorry for the little info
    Thanks in advance

    Cheers
    Jason

        1918-1919

The rank bars on the cap were in use for a very short time, so your photo dates to around the formation of the RAF sometime after April 1918. The sleeve chevrons indicate time of service, so he had already served for a few years by the time the photo was taken. I cannot make out the insignia above the left pocket, but this would indicate observer or pilot. If there isn't any insignia then he would have been an administrator/technical specialist. Pilot/observer photos sell on ebay for any where from $10 to $100 typically, but the value depends on the subject. If your picture were of an ace, you might triple the value, or more. If he is an administrator, you will be on the low end of the scale.

Thank you! unfortunately there is no brevet on his chest only a ribbon bar. It is great to know that this photo was taken so soon after the founding of the RAF.

            Brevet

If you could post a close-up of the ribbon we may be able to identify it... this would add a little bit to the story.

I cant get a good photo at the moment, i shall try tommorow with different light. The ribbon bar is a single place bar and seems to be rather large, height wise it looks bigger than the pocket buttons. It apears that it could be mainly red in colour with three thick verticle white stripes.

              Cheers
