    Polish battle dress?

    Gentlemen,
Lately I have seen several examples of what looks like a mix P'37/P'40 battle dress blouse: pleated pockets, exposed buttons, slightly opened collar, particularly pointy lapels. The funny thing is, it seems only Polish soldiers wore it. The Airborne museum shows 2 of them at the moment.
My question is: is this a specific pattern used by Poles exclusively?
    I'd appreciate your thoughts.
    Cheers, Luc

You should ask for a picture.

Hi Luc, the Poles were very fond of tailoring their BD blouses. Hence these started life as standard 37 or 40 patterns but were then heavily altered. That is what you are seing in these photos.Cheers, Ade.

        Hello Adrian,

So it's not a standart pattern Battle dress? There is no name for these BD's ?

          Types

          Luc,
The Poles always looked for better "cut" BD's for their walking out "best".

I've seen (and owned), examples that were, American, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, manufactured.

The thing was that the British issues were of a very course weave, and just about another other countries BD were of a finer standard.

The Poles based in England, mainly "obtained" Canadian or American BD's.
The Poles in the Middle East, were mixing with New Zealand, Australian, South African troops, .. and hence, the 2nd Corp "Walking outs" normally are associated with those countries. (Trading amongst the troops was common place, .. especially for cigarettes and other difficult to obtain items.)

.. The Polish Airborne BD I have, I suspect is Canadian. The only thing was that when they had them retaylored, .. it was not uncommon for the label to be stripped out at the same time as the seams being split and reshaped.

          Regards

          Gary J.

HIYA ,just to follow on , the polish forces took their appearance very serious , i have seen polish worn B.D.s with shoulder straps re tailored more ` pointy` some tailored more round , pocket flaps scalloped ( i think the word is ??) breast seams ,tucks , B.Ds silk lined !! even one that had been taken to bits and has then been completely re-built all in all very proud smart soldiers ,Michael.
