I have a couple of photos of WW1 diggers (Australian soldiers). One picture is of 4 lighthorse soldiers in a camp and another picture is of an infantryman. I will have a look around to see if I can find them.

      Nice pics, by the way.

I like these as well, and while I don't collect them per se I do have a few kicking around. I'll dig them out and try to get some scans up on here.

These seem to be plentiful and quite popular on ebay and similar venues... They can make for a nice study of badges and insignia as well...the old photos often being strikingly clear and crisply detailed.

        Cheers,

        Adam

I have a couple of albums full and am an avid collector. Mostly British cavalry but have some Royal Horse Artillery and Army Service Corps too. The thing with these is, during World War One, photos were turned into postcards so as they could be mailed back to loved ones in Britain. Some of the ones I have are postally used which sometimes gives an indication as to the picture on the front. As you say, many are unmarked which is a shame as there are several interesting ones I have that wil probably never be identified. Some of them aren't cheap either!
I have several Yeomanry postcards which go for silly amounts for some unknown reason.

I also have a collection of cards. These days theres very little militaria to be found at the antique shows so all the collectors go running to the postcard dealers stalls and buy every card they have of soldiers.

The first card you have shown looks to be yeomanry. You need to zoom into the shoulder title and also look at the mark on the reverse which indicates the location of the photographer. You will have no problems in IDing the unit.

Hi here is a close up of the shoulder title.

It is still not that clear though.
The back of the picture says The Monochrome Photographic Co.

Hiya , I think the collecting of private military photos is one of the most under valued areas of militaria , especially the great war period studio types , the infomation avalable from these images is amazing ,
but i think collectors are to be divided , many simply will not pay for theses ` bits of paper` as it has no value like a badge or medal ?
                    regards ,Michael.
