    They Can't Be Serious...Can They?

    Hi all,

I can't believe the price that this patch is getting. Does anyone have any explanation as to why? True enough that it's not an issue piece and would have been privately made but it wasn't more than 6 months ago I was getting similar pieces on ebay for 35 bucks or less. Looks like I'll have to be burning out some of my extras on ebay in the very near future .

    Cheers,
    Greg

    Hi Greg,

My reaction of disbelief was the same. This seller sold another 3DSK patch like this a week or two ago for just over $90 – which also surprised me.

As for an explanation, my initial thought was “shallow of knowledge, deep of pockets”, but the next highest bidder for this patch is a seasoned collector who evidently either really needs one of these, or sees some inherent value that escapes me. Beyond that I have no explanation whatsoever – other than anomalies of this type are to be expected on ebay. For example, who’d expect this rather nondescript set drawing this level of bidding?:

    Crazy world…

      Hi Tony,

That bar is nice but is far from spectacular. In fact it's kind of lacklustre compared to others I've seen. He has no Cross of Merit or Cross of Valour nor the Polish War Medal. It's curious as it almost seems put together. Certainly not worth the dollars that the high bidder is shelling out. I don't know what it is but Polish 2nd Corps militaria seems to be taking off and getting out of hand. I've noticed that in the last few months but especially in the more recent weeks. I can't explain it but I hope it dies off or else I'll have to slow my collecting way down.

      Cheers,
      Greg

        Bidders

I recognise at least three of the bidders on the 3DSK Firtree Div Patch.
.. One is a 3 DSK fanatic, ... and he DID NOT win the patch.

.. Well over priced for the item, ... and as stated, this will cause an unwelcome run on 3 DSK items, as people will believe that this is the "going rate" ..

Lets see what else drags itself out of the woodwork now that the prices are silly ..

This is what happens when you start to discuss your collections on public forums. Also as you teach people what to look for they will start to chase the good stuff competing with you.

This is a very fickle, fashion driven market. You should find things calming down in a few months but prices won't drop back to where they were. Same thing happened with Airborne and Commando.

          Yours, Guy.

Hi Guys, I can only agree with your comments. "Fashion" does have a lot to do with it.

            Cheers, Ade.

Tony, ... we'll have to flip a coin to see who will win the right to go by the name "Mr X" on the forum for security and secracy purposes !!

Oh no, not another anonymous member! I hate that!

Re the badge, it could be a coincidence. I've just discussed a similar auction where a collector happily paid 25 pounds for a common badge in my view worth about 5 pounds. He told me he simply wanted to have it.
