    Unit Markings on Bayonet??

    Hello All!

I recently returned from a trip to Afghanistan where I stopped at a market about 45 minutes North of Kabul. I was able to purchase a British Pattern 1888 Mk 1 Type 2 Bayonet. Bayonet is dated 7 / 95 and is unit marked. My question is can anyone out there tell me the unit??

    Ben

        Hi Ben,
According to Skennerton's "the broad arrow" stands for Herts district, R.E. Royal Engineers and the numeral I would be unit number, hope this makes sense. I can't find the stamp in picture 2, but you didn't ask about that one luckily

I hadn't thought of Hearts district, thats a good posibility. I was thinking The Hampshire Regiment (HTS), Royal Engineers (RE). Reason being the abreviation goes HTS (period). R (period). E (Period).

Ben, you are right I misread the book, Herts is HTF!
            Cheers, Luc
